The Big Reveal

It has been a busy weekend....perfect....but busy!!!   sewing, sewing , sewing....
I have finished my Batman quilt top and working on the back now....

I'm pretty happy with the way it's turned out....everyone at the Guild asked me if it was for my son....they couldn't believe it when I told them it was for my 29 year old teaching partner!!!

Somehow, I don't think I'll have it ready for his birthday on Tuesday....perhaps it'll have to be a teaser where I give it to him as a topper and take it back to finish it.....aaaahhh that's an idea.....maybe the backing and quilting can be his Christmas present!!!! (hehehe just jokin!)

We had our big reveal of the Round Robin Medallion Quilts we held over the past 6 months at our Guild.  We had groups of 6 ladies, made a centre block of 12 1/2" and sent them round our group each month for each of us to complete the next border in the round.  It was soooo much fun and helped me develop new skills and try colour combinations I wouldn't normally use!! 

I sent a star block (very similar, it seems, to your BOM block, Kylie!!!) and this is how it came back....

very very be-ewwwwww-ti-ful!!!!!

Here are the other quilts I worked on in our group.....they've all turned out magnificently and everyone was extremely happy with their tops....lots of oooooh's and aaaaaah's yesterday...it's a wonder you couldn't hear them from your place!!!

They all came out different sizes and Allyson won't have to do much more to make hers into a queen sized bed quilt!  And I must show you Gloria's wonder......her rooster block astounded her when it returned to her as this......

Isn't it wonderful???  all the quilts were very impressive...so much talent at the local guild...if you're not in one, you should consider joining....it's so much fun and you learn so much from all the ladies!!!!

I'll share with you the other quilts in my next post....too many to share now.

Well, I'm off to judge my junior duckies in the Annual Rotary Duck Race!!!  I'll tell you all about it next time!

They say it comes in threes!

Well, I am a lucky chook and I have the goodies to prove it.

Look what came in the mail this week......

and inside it was the most gorgeous.....

pincushion I won on Cori Blunt's blog ....

thank you, thank you, thank you Cori.....I love it - your stitching is just p-e-r-f-e-c-t and it's so yummy I could almost eat it up!!!!!

Another knock at the door revealed this delicious prize.......

.....a beautiful bundle of Rosalie's yummy new fabric range that I won on Bush Baby Jag's 'Giveaway for a Cause' to help promote Breast Cancer Awareness during October.  Thanks so much Julie, this was the icing on the cake....finding a cure for the dreaded "C" is my ultimate aim and I'm going to use the fabric to make a commemorative quilt for my lovely young mum who I lost 20 years ago to that disgusting "C" word!!!

Did you notice the cutie on the postcard????  I've got her posted on my wall next to my computer to remind me, when I'm feeling blah, just how quilty warm and snuggly bloglanders are!!!  Thank you Julie.....I absolutely Luuuuuuuurv them!!!

And thirdly,  I entered Judith's comp in the wee late hours on Monday (or was it Tuesday???) and to my surprise.........*bling, bling, bling*......bells and whistles, sirens and hooters......third time lucky!!!!  (this isn't like me....I couldn't win an argument normally!!!!)

So I'll be on the lookout for two little charms similar to these....

Speaking of Judith....have you visited her blog today???...go and check out the 12 days of Christmas with 12 talented USA designers.  Judith's blogged about it in depth, but basically for 12 days (9-20 November), 12 talented designers are offering free Christmas designs for all of us (a little like the Among the Gum Tree gals).  I've tagged my sidebar with the blog hop logo to get you to one of the designers...the rest is up to you!!  Don't miss it, it starts next week!

And because I love you all so much.....I couldn't leave without giving you a gift too.  You know what I'm like with roses.....well................ these are to share with you.....

I can't take the credit for growing them (wish i could coz they are magnificent!!)  They are the most gorgeous hot pink, velvet red and all variations in between, and the scent............ mmmmmmmm   mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....I bet you can smell them from there!  They come courtesy of my darling hubby....he doesn't mind if I share!!

Yoo hoo......I'm back!

Wow, what a whirlwind trip to Cairns but I loved every minute of it (despite the nodding off a few times 'cause I was toooo sleepy!! *woops*)
We left home at 2.30am and drove north for 5 and a half hours, stopping for fuel for both the car and ourselves!!!  It has been so dry at our place for so long, that it was welcome to see the clouds and rain along the way.....I took some photos to show you....check it out...

Looks a little like my bargello, don't ya think??? LOL

Once we got up past Ingham, we started seeing lots of bananas in all stages of growth.

I met many wonderful ladies at Kays Fabrics Inaugural Patchwork, Quilting and Machine Embroidery Seminar Weekend and I learnt so many new things (and spent waaaaay too much money).  One lovely lady was Susan from the Pattern Place and I found out she is a blogger too! Check out her blog here.  Susan has some amaaaaaazing patterns that look extremely complicated but are really easy....called 'Walk on the Wild Side', she has patterns for giraffes, apes, elephants, zebras and others and she even showed us how to create quilts using gold leaf......absolutely gor-geeee-ous!!!  I didn't buy anything the first day...thought I'd be strong and sleep on it, but when I went back on Sunday to buy the funky zebra.....she'd sold out *boo hoo*!  Oh well, just have to go to the website!!!!  Here's a picture of some of Susan's work...

what do you think of the wonderful quilting on the pink version of the zebra....isn't it  delicious???

and here are the goodies I snavelled up.....(at a greatly discounted price.....in case hubby's checking!!)

Not being a machine embroiderer, and knowing that quite a few of the seminars were around this topic,  I vowed this would not dampen my interest.... I looked at all the designs with enquiring eyes and many of the patterns I think I could modify for applique  or stitcheries with colouring  (Inktense pencils were often discussed in the classes)

Have a look at some of these Jenny and Simon Haskins beauties to see what I mean...

We left during the afternoon tea as we knew we had a long trip ahead of us so I missed the drawing of the Janome....I didn't hear from them so.......maybe they forgot to call me????

I have so much more to share, but I'll leave that for another post.

Thanks to Kay and Sandra for a wonderful weekend....I learnt soo much, it opened my eyes to many more possibilities.....I tell you, if you get the chance to spend a weekend at a quilting seminar/retreat/workshop......DO IT!!  There's nothing like it to get your mojo going again!!!

Now, if they ring you by mistake and tell you Wendy's won the Janome.....just let them know I'm here!!!!!!

What did you say was on this weekend????

It's been a very slow week this week....far too much work and very little 'play'!  I've hardly even had enough time for stitching or visiting blogs *gasp*, so I've been scanning blogs very quickly, trying to catch up and 'lurking' rather than commenting.!!  Huge apologies to all. *sigh*

However, I did manage to come across Kellie's Quilt Along at Don't Look Now for Joseph's Coat.  I absolutely had to do this one.....
number 1 reason:  my hubby's name's Joseph *ohhhhhhh*
and
number 2 reason:  Gloria, my now-bloggy friend told me about it and isn't it so much easier when you do things with a friend????? ( a bit like dieting and exercise really....but so much more fun!!!)

I'm getting ready to go to Cairns this weekend for Kay's Fabrics Inaugural Machine Embroidery, Patchwork and Quilting Seminar.  We've got a very busy two days planned and even get to spend some time with Jenny and Simon Haskins!!!!! Might pick up some tips???  I'm really looking forward to it and fingers crossed, the lucky door prize is a new Janome sewing machine....yayyyyyyyy....I'm so excited, and I'll have lots of photos to share with you when I get back.
