I’m officially a basket case!!!

Well, maybe not in the true sense of the word…..or I guess it depends on who you ask!!??

But this weekend, I spent at a workshop with Denise Vanderlugt, who is a quilter and fibre artist who works with recyclable materials and all those scraps of fabric you have left over after a quilting project that you just CAN’T throw out, but you just don’t really know what to do with……….yet!!!

It was a fab weekend learning how to use plastic shopping bags (we all know how they accumulate!!??), bread bags, mesh onion bags, old denim, ropes, clothesline etc etc etc to create the most gorgeous baskets that will hold some very precious ‘stuff’!!!

My little beauty didn’t quite resemble the image I  had in my head……I thought it would look a little more like Denise’s fabulous Rainbow basket….

…..but unfortunately it ended up a little differently…….

….its little mini-cousin perhaps????……

Maybe I just need a lot more practice…but we did learn quite a few techniques along the way (believe it or not)………

I learnt how to make a flange on the inside of the lid so my lid fitted snugly inside my basket……

I learnt how to bring in new colours into the rows and quite a few other ‘tricks’ that undoubtedly, I need a LOT more practice with!  But I’m happy that after the two days, I’ve ended up with something finished … AND I’ve learnt how I can start using up some of the scraps I’ve accumulated as well!!!

So, after a weekend of instructions, I can now be considered a basketcase!!!!    My family will attest to that, I’m sure….especially when, after arriving home, I presented  my small, ‘prized basket to them with a proud, but silly, grin on my face!   I think they expected a little more after two full days!!!!  They just can’t appreciate true ‘art’ now, can they?!

So…….how was your weekend???
