Let there be light…..and there was!

  I have been waiting….and waiting…..and waiting…….for this to arrive… I have been a faithful magazine subscriber for more years than I care to remember and to reward me (after I forked out another sum of moulah to keep my subscriptions alive), they promised me this wonderful floor lamp. Now, I’d begun to notice in the past twelve months  *ahem* or so. my stitching was not as accurate as it used to be, so I ended up getting glasses for close up work, but that didn’t seem to make a huge difference (or so I convinced myself).  Then, after reading some hints in someone’s blog,  I tried my little bubba light, strategically placed nearby …… and, my goodness, I could see!!!!!  It was a miracle!!!  I didn’t know I couldn’t see until I could!!!  Strange, but true.  And this little light has served me well for quite a while, despite noticing in the past few months, that if it were only a touch taller, I could see even better as my stitches were starting to move apart on me again! Well again I trotted off for new glasses, and this helped, but the honeymoon had ended for my little light and despite being wonderful and doing a great job it just didn’t seem to cover the area I wanted it to.  I needed the mother light of my little bubba one. I had seen these beauties in the catalogues and magazines  and was tempted just to go and buy one, but I couldn’t justify it really!  the quilty-guilts hit hard.   So lots of dreaming, and wishing and one day-ing must have paid off because I got a phone call that I just couldn’t refuse….an offer of my dream light!!!!  Now, a number of weeks have passed (they say it could take 6-8 weeks…..it took 5….I was impressed!!) and today…..here she is, the mother of all lights, set up tall and proud, ready to serve! Isn’t she a beauty???? I had asked for light…and there it was!!!!  (poor bubba light has been relegated back to the craft room….I’m sure it needs a rest!). Little bubba served me well and  still has plenty of life but wow……..I’m sure ready for some marathon stitching now!  Armed with glasses, comfy chair and new light….there’ll be no stopping me!!! Twins?

  I love a good challenge…..I think because I work much better under pressure!  So this weekend, with the challenge to get “A Stitcher’s Priority” designed by Natalie Bird of the Birdhouse  well underway, with the companionship of another blogger (aka  Teresa, who had discovered her pattern lost in her pile of treasures), I set off to get as much done as I possibly could. In my last post you can see the first two blocks completed yesterday, and now, I can reveal to you my last two stitcheries…..done! Ta da……!!!!!!! Now, I’ve been in touch with Teresa over the weekend, and she has been limited in blogging by a certain teenager who has taken the computer hostage!!!  She’s also been working and had visitors so I can understand that she has not been able to show much as yet, but I do know she too, is well underway.   She will probably reveal her stitcheries later in the week and I know we’ll be on an even keel next weekend with the actual construction of the project and hopefully, completion! I can’t wait to see how they both compare!  Will they be identical or non-identical twins!??? What do you think? XXX sugary hugs Wendy :O}

Progress Report

  Well, Saturday’s nearly over, so I just thought I’d give you a little progress report on the stitching I’ve done for Teresa’s and my weekend stitching challenge! Here’s my block 1 finished…. If you’re wondering what the ‘extra bits’ are around the outside of the block….it’s a little trick I learnt from Leanne at our last retreat in Townsville. Add a border of scrap fabric to your blocks that you are hand stitching using a large stitch (I used 3.5 stitch length on the machine)  Then it makes it easier to stitch in the hoop like this…….. … which is block 2 and only a few stitches from finished.  See how the extra border makes the difference and protects the edges of your block from fraying and wear????  So don’t throw out your 2-3” wide ‘bits’ that you think you’ll never have a use for….they truly come in handy….and the longer stitch length makes them really easy to remove when they’ve done their job!!  (and they’re reusable….until they’re so dog-eared their stitching life is done!) Leanne is such a clever girl…..I love retreats….I always try to pick up at least ONE useful tip that helps my habit!!! Progress Report

 

Well, Saturday’s nearly over, so I just thought I’d give you a little progress report on the stitching I’ve done for Teresa’s and my weekend stitching challenge!

Here’s my block 1 finished….

If you’re wondering what the ‘extra bits’ are around the outside of the block….it’s a little trick I learnt from Leanne at our last retreat in Townsville.

Add a border of scrap fabric to your blocks that you are hand stitching using a large stitch (I used 3.5 stitch length on the machine)  Then it makes it easier to stitch in the hoop like this……..

A Stitcher’s Priority

  After my last post, Teresa emailed me and said that she, too has that pattern and it’s been sitting in the pile of ‘to-dos’ for simply yonks. So together, we’ve decided to have an online stitch-in this weekend.  We were meant to start last night, but my wonderful hubby decided to take me out to dinner instead……aaaaaaaaahhh no, I was not about to refuse! So while he was chatting on the phone earlier in the evening, I started to get the first block drawn…….. ……and the next is ready and waiting for me. I’ll pop back to show you how we are progressing. Can’t wait to see how different Teresa’s and mine are at the end of the weekend!!!!! And just to prove a garden CAN grow pretty much by itself, here’s some snippets of my ‘real’ unkempt garden…   What are you doing on your weekend???? sugary hugs XXX Wendy :O)
