Quilty surprises

  In 3 hours, we will be in the swing of our Quilting Guild’s Christmas Break Up Party!!  Lot’s of quilty games and fun. We had to make a gift for our Christmas Swap….here’s mine….. Break time

  Time for a quick break between report cards……for sanity reasons!!! I met up with these two lovelies on Friday whilst in Townsville….. Aren’t they just beautiful?  Of course it’s Jenny and Bloss who took a quick trip down to Townsville to do some Chrissy shopping (much more organised than me!!!) and to have lunch with me (and my two boys)….we had such a lovely time!!! I had the day off to go and visit with my doctor who told me I’m up for some big surgery in March!!!  Well, that means time off work so plenty of stitchy time…..gotta be some bonuses!!!! Our weather has been crazy the last week or so with rain falling in bucketloads…..make that truckloads!…..here’s what it looked like from my place before the sky opened up at 9 oclock yesterday morning, just before I went to the guild meeting… I think it only took minutes before everything was under 2 inches of water (can you tell, I’m a quilter!!!….no metric here!)  just as well I put everything in the car just before I took these photos….however, I did get drenched getting them out!!!!  And these little terrors are hijacking our banana trees….. look at the damage they’re doing…. rotten little so and so’s!!!  These are cane beetles….they come out around October and love sugar cane, but although we have a beautiful crop over the road….they seem to love to demolish my bananas!!!!   gggrrrrrrr!!!   And those rotten cane toads don’t seem to be doing anything to get rid of them (which is why they were brought here in the first place!!)  They really smell bad too when they die….it’s a no win situation!!!! While I was at quilting yesterday, I finished my CSSC gifties which I will post off tomorrow (and send you piccies, Chooky!).  Sorry everyone else, can’t give you any sneakies until they arrive at their destination and make themselves at home under the Christmas tree until Santa comes!!!!….All I can tell you is, it is soooooo hard to send it away…..I’m going to have to make another!!!! I did manage to start this lovely using Moda Sorbet turnovers I bought when the $AUD was at an all time high!!  It is Vintage Turnovers by Kristin Roylance.  If you go and visit Khris, she’ll put you on the right path! Sweet colours….not my normal country style, but I love them!!!  Can’t wait to see this finished! The Big Red Bus came to visit us at quilting yesterday…poor things got flooded out and shopping there involved wading through ankle deep water, so I felt I just HAD to support them…… I bought this end of roll yummy….can't you just see lots of binding??????  So many other yummies….but I was strong!!!!! My Angel

  Have you ever had a day where you just couldn’t wait for it to end, nothing seemed to go right and you just wanted it all to go away???? Well, I haven’t had one of those days, thank goodness, but the past 7 weeks have been a bit of a turmoil.  I don’t like to harp on it, but school is just so demanding these days….I don’t even seem to be able to find time to sew!!!….maybe that’s why I’m feeling blah!!! Anyways, I didn’t have too bad a day, considering!  Kids seemed to be learning, the quote to get my son’s furniture back from his stay with his dad didn’t quite break the $1000 mark like I thought it would ROFL (oh, I didn’t tell you my boy’s home now did I ????), the neck and shoulder that seized up last week is starting to just loosen off a  touch…only 4 panadol needed per work day instead of 6!!!,  I have nearly completed all of my testing and marking so that I can begin report cards on the weekend (after visiting the knee surgeon on Friday to hear of the date of my upcoming knee replacement!) and our after-work meeting only lasted one hour today!.   So you see, it wasn’t really THAT bad of a day!!!! I did get to visit the post office on the way home, prior to it shutting…..I usually don’t get there till after 5, so if there are any goodies I’ve bought to make me feel better (even though I can’t use them just yet!!), I’ve had to wait until I could get there before closing time.  Lo and behold, I had a few parcels sitting there waiting.   A couple I have been expecting….. a man’s leather bracelet with a diamond  (small) for my son’s upcoming 16th birthday, some goodies from here and this very unexpected but very lovely little angel  (well, flower fairy!!)….. from THIS lovely little angel!!!!! Isn’t she a sneaky????  Oh Jen….I L-U-V her…. she’s, (as Joy would put it)…simply ‘gawjus’….I just love ya to death!!!!  You are such a sweety and although we are very close in kilometres (well, closer than a lot of other bloggy friends) it is still so tricky to spend time together.  We will just have to make up for that! Aren’t friends a wonderful thing…..they know when you’re feeling down, or frantic, or tied in a knot or…..they just know !!!!!  The land of Blog is wonderful and, here I go….all mooshy……  I never thought for a minute how many wonderful people I’d meet and how many special friendships that would develop when I wrote my first post just over a year ago! Thank you my dear sweet friend….I love you dearly! …and guess what???   Only three weeks of school left so look out Blogville……I’ve got a lot of catching up to do!!!  I WILL be back…..with a vengeance!!! Could you resist the temptation?

This is about the extent of what I can show you for my recent crafty ventures.  This is a friendship swap block I made for Gloria in our guild (who, by the way hasn’t blogged for quite a while, busy little bee she is….needs a good prod along!!!! LOL) Here are the ones I received from my group…. I’m really liking the browns and blues at the moment so I was after those colourings with curves….something I’ve never been too game to try….until now!  Don’t they look great?? and finally, I can say I’ve picked up my new baby….. here she is….. …and that’s about how far I’ve got too!  I never thought I’d be able to hold back on playing with my new girl, however I’ve been a bit time poor lately, and she’s just had to wait!  I did have a little sneaky look though….. …but I didn’t want to get too close or my report cards would NEVER get started!!!!  So I’ve had to resist the temptation to play…….could you resist???? But I have been readying myself with lots of goodies from here,  like these brights …and more blues and browns. And my favourite store sent these my way at between $8-10 a metre……could I resist, I ask???? And Wendy sent these Fossil Fern gifties in the parcel so I can make even more goodies!!!!!  If you get a chance, take a look because she often has wonderful specials…this one was a free fossil fern FQ for every $10 spent…..oops, now you know my secret!!!! LOL  Go for a visit, and tell Wendy I said “Hi”! I must get to and visit some more of you in Bloggyland…..have been very absent lately, and missing you all dreadfully.  I will be back real soon….holidays are only 5 weeks away (but who’s counting!!!??)
