Stars of Bethlehem for very special pals

Last year I took part in Chookyblue’s Christmas swap and sent this Start of Bethlehem table runner toNoemia in Portugal. The pattern, by Karen Gledhill, can be found in Creating Country Threads Christmas Special,  Vol 11 No 3. My good friend Jen and I had both loved the pattern and decided we’d make one for each other for Christmas 2011. Here is the one that Jen made me…. 017 (Large) with our favourite block of the lot…. 018 (Large) and a truly personalised label… 020 (Large) She used gorgeous fabric she bought from Fee and very special 80 year old vintage ricrac…..I do feel very special! And here’s the one I made Jenny…. 003 011 This fabric was simply perfect with all it’s glitter and gold….just like the gifts from the wise men!  I did modify the pattern slightly and instead of ricrac, I used gold ribbon and embellished it with red ‘holly berries’ (ie beads!!!)  Each stitchery worked in Cottage Garden Thread…. 004005006007008 and wrapped in love and blessings. 016 She also brought some other lovelies for me….. a moda gift bag filled with … 021030 a fat quarter bundle of ‘Tea Garden’ by Dena Fishbein for Westminster… 023 a very clever pair of tweezers…..(these will come in VERY handy)… 024 a gorgeous notepad and pencil, 026 some lipbalm, scissors, buttons and scissor charm, 028 and some yummy threads wrapped in red dotty ribbon….my favourite! 029 What a way to spoil a gal!  Jen is one very special lady, that’s for sure! The delivery guy made a special stop late that night to our doorstep too…..we thought we had trouble when there was bashing on the front door at 8pm but the courier was just delivering this special parcel from my brother who just thought of me when he saw it….. 037 I can’t imagine why????!!!! LOL This chocolate port will certainly be put to good use over Christmas, I’d say!!!!  Imagine the designs I’ll come up with!!!!! 032 Only two more of these left before Santa sets off on his merry way….keep safe if you’re traveling and many blessings to you and yours during Christmas. love and sugary, sweet candy-cane hugs xo Wendy :O)

Break time

Time for a quick break between report cards……for sanity reasons!!! I met up with these two lovelies on Friday whilst in Townsville….. 001 Aren’t they just beautiful?  Of course it’s Jenny and Bloss who took a quick trip down to Townsville to do some Chrissy shopping (much more organised than me!!!) and to have lunch with me (and my two boys)….we had such a lovely time!!! I had the day off to go and visit with my doctor who told me I’m up for some big surgery in March!!!  Well, that means time off work so plenty of stitchy time…..gotta be some bonuses!!!! Our weather has been crazy the last week or so with rain falling in bucketloads…..make that truckloads!…..here’s what it looked like from my place before the sky opened up at 9 oclock yesterday morning, just before I went to the guild meeting… 002 I think it only took minutes before everything was under 2 inches of water (can you tell, I’m a quilter!!!….no metric here!)  just as well I put everything in the car just before I took these photos….however, I did get drenched getting them out!!!!  And these little terrors are hijacking our banana trees….. 007 look at the damage they’re doing…. 005 rotten little so and so’s!!!  These are cane beetles….they come out around October and love sugar cane, but although we have a beautiful crop over the road….they seem to love to demolish my bananas!!!!   gggrrrrrrr!!!   And those rotten cane toads don’t seem to be doing anything to get rid of them (which is why they were brought here in the first place!!)  They really smell bad too when they die….it’s a no win situation!!!! While I was at quilting yesterday, I finished my CSSC gifties which I will post off tomorrow (and send you piccies, Chooky!).  Sorry everyone else, can’t give you any sneakies until they arrive at their destination and make themselves at home under the Christmas tree until Santa comes!!!!….All I can tell you is, it is soooooo hard to send it away…..I’m going to have to make another!!!! I did manage to start this lovely using Moda Sorbet turnovers I bought when the $AUD was at an all time high!!  It is Vintage Turnovers by Kristin Roylance.  If you go and visit Khris, she’ll put you on the right path! 028 029 030 Sweet colours….not my normal country style, but I love them!!!  Can’t wait to see this finished! The Big Red Bus came to visit us at quilting yesterday…poor things got flooded out and shopping there involved wading through ankle deep water, so I felt I just HAD to support them…… 032 I bought this end of roll yummy….can't you just see lots of binding??????  So many other yummies….but I was strong!!!!! Anyways…..too much procrastinating….must be back to these reports…unfortunately they won’t do themselves!!!!!! Sugary Hugs XXX Wendy Smile
