Welcome visitors….

I’ve been feeling much better the last couple of days, thanks to the power of cold and flu tablets, rest and STITCHING!!!!! I’ve made my set of blocks for the applique version of Dawn and my design I talked about here and it gives such a sense of achievement, even though I still have to do the second applique…. …here’s the first one done…… ….but at least now, they’re ready to go! I have been spending a bit of time cleaning up my work area too…..I’m one of those messy workers who pulls stuff out and leaves it out……has way too much stuff and nowhere to put it….no room is enough…..you know the type??? So….I bought myself some more of these plastic drawers to organise myself a bit better and have used the beautiful runner that Illene made me in Fee’s Advent Swap last year to adorn them. There’s my big blue bucket of buttons that I love to delve into and run my fingers through as I pass through the doorway (I’m very tactile!!!), my lovely wooden chest with special treasures which has a glittery fish puppet (from my favourite picture story book….”The Fisherman and the Theefyspray” by Paul Jennings) sitting atop which I just can’t part with, and my hilarious Angry Birds doll that my wonderful bloggy friend Teresa sent me, just because! (We both have a massive addiction to the game!!!!)  It gives me a giggle every time I go past it!  If you squint, you might see the gorgeous owl pins that Amanda made for me, sitting in front of my Angry Bird……I just need to leave them out and look at them…they’re just so sweet! You’ll notice some of the drawers are already bulging……I think I have a bit of a fabric addiction!!!!  Maybe I should work on using some more of it up!!!!!??? Yesterday was a bit of a rainy day…..our first real rainy day of the wet season….. a late start this year! As I was cleaning the house, and preparing for visitors that are arriving today, I noticed this little fellow out the window in my neighbours’ backyard… He’s a wild budgerigar…..so pretty……and so HUGE!!!!  I was surprised!!!  He was feasting, under the tree, on the five corner fruits commonly known as star fruits or carambola, oblivious to my watchful eye……I watched him for AGES!!…..he toddled along and cleaned his feet, then had a drink from the puddle before flying away… Then, I went to the laundry, on the other side of the house, and lo and behold, here was a kingfisher, resting on the fence…. Now you can see why I don’t get much done around here!!!!! We are very blessed with wildlife up here in the tropics! What’s happening at your place?   Sugary hugs xo  :O)

Redraw.????!!!!

  Yesterday we were congratulating Tich on her wonderful win in the Quilting Pattern Magazine Subscription competition from last month, but so were 5 others!!!!!!!  She was the very lucky recipient of five prizes so she has graciously passed in her win and offered it back to be redrawn so some other lucky commenter can have the chance….so here goes…..random number generator thingy, do your stuff………and the winner is… (drumrrroll…………) Comment Number 26 Donna Joy;  “The magazine is great would love to win and get this online, it would be a great space saver and love the PDF and no over lapping lines to interfere while tracing.” Who said we never get second chances????????  Congratulations Donna Joy and I’ll be in contact with you soon!   I had my first finish for the year which has been ‘in the closet’ for about the past eight years…… I had forgotten all about these until I was sorting through all mu ‘stuff’ and writing my list for the Sew It’s Finished challenge.  (You can read more about it here.)  Now they finally have found their place….not in the kitchen as was originally planned, but the craft room is certainly looking much happier for its new acquisition!!!!!  I’ve also been trying to catch up on Kaaren’s Raggedy Ann and Andy BOM…….I’d started to organise myself with this and partway through last year I found I couldn’t access the 4shared site anymore so I gave up. After countless hours of trying to get access granted from my computer’s security settings and whatever I could think of (I thought these ‘beasts’ were supposed to make life easier!!!!#$!#$) Must be because I have been on holidays and I can think a little more clearly but a brainwave came to me…….Try Mozilla Firefox as a browser instead of Internet Explorer…..and do you know it worked!!!???  So, if you’re having trouble accessing some sites, try a different browser…..it might just work!!!! And here’s my first block ……… done!…….. ………………………….and I am happy!!!!! Now….onto my list!!!!  I can see a birth sampler about to be born!!!!! XXX  Sugary hugs Wendy  8O)

I had my first finish for the year which has been ‘in the closet’ for about the past eight years……

Design Inspiration

I’ve been planning a little re-organisation in my sewing room lately but without much of a plan, I’ve been waiting for a design inspiration to pop into my head! I  do know that I never seem to have enough room on my sewing table to cut and iron and everything else (or is it just my disorganised state once I get playing in there??!!) and nothing’s caught my eye when I hit the shops, so I thought I’d google for some inspiration. On my way I found this drop leaf table that I thought would be perfect for a cutting station…. …one wouldn’t take up too much room and being reasonably priced, (particularly now the Aussie dollar is riding high!!) is a big drawcard too!  Don’t you love the storage shelves underneath??  ….and the drop sides make it perfect to butt up against the wall and save room! I really like this one…. ….’cause it takes up so little space (which is always a bonus!) but opens up, having such a useful area, and then folds away again when you’re not using it.  But, what could you hide in the storage compartment down the bottom???  Rulers on the shelf and cutters in the cupboard??  I haven’t seen anything like that in my part of the world!  I’m getting goosebumps just thinking of it!!!!!  I think I have just the perfect spot! I’d never thought of going to the dining room department to look for inspiration before….but I guess looking outside the square leads to new possibilities, doesn’t it???
