The Challenge….complete!

I have been busting my little (!!!?!!?!!) buns LOL  trying to finish this in between other life complications and finally did it…..woohoooooo!!!! It took a little longer than I had expected, winding and winding and winding…..Dawn told me it took her 6 hours and boy, she was not exaggerating!!!!   But, I do believe it was very well worth the couple of hot glue gun burns (I think I learnt after the second one!!!!…I AM a bit of a slow learner!!!! )…What do you think?? 015 006 007008  Do you think it looks anything like this one?…. It’s official!!!!

IHprod.0507.birdcage Well, good morning ladies, and welcome to Jenny’s and my Birdcage Challenge weekend! I know Jenny’s away for today visiting with a friend and enjoying this beautiful scenery strand townsville and chatting away a storm!  We really do live in God’s country, don’t we??? I hope you’re able to follow me on our weekend.  I’ve taken the liberty, whilst Jenny’s away, to get started! I did try gathering everyone’s emails together so I could send out more personalised info, but that was easier said than done!  Sorry ladies, but once we get started, if you email me with how you’re going, I’ll start up a photo gallery and we can email back and forth with any issues you’re having! (Not that I’m an expert….but we can work things out together….you know the old saying….two heads are better than one!?) My plan is to have all the birds made today, and get all the birdcage paraphenalia cut and organised before I travel to Charters Towers tomorrow to visit with Jenny to work on our birdcages.  Have you set yourself some goals to complete your project this weekend, or is this weekend just the jumping board to get you started????  I’d love to hear! Firstly, I’m following Sarah’s pattern in the August issue of Homespun, and here are my fabric choices for my birds 006 (3) I’ve already made one (and a half!!)….I do plan to have my 5 done today so I can concentrate on the birdcage tomorrow at Jenny’s. 006 and here is where I’m up to this morning with all my goodies sorted (well, most anyway!) 001 So, I now officially open the Jenny of Elefantz and Sugarlane Quilts Birdcage Challenge Weekend Sew-In……OPEN!!!!   cutting ribbon Good luck and I can’t wait to see how you’re going! Full Moon finishes….

004 We had a beautiful golden full moon rising tonight and although my camera just didn’t do it justice, there was an eeriness about it that I think it may have captured…..which made me think about reminding you about this…. falloween bloghop which starts next Monday, but if you’re going to fall-ow (LOL), don’t forget to go here and let Gudrun know by Friday, so you’ll be entered in the draw to win this sweet bundle of Halo… IMG_0468 I did manage to get my first Christmas finish completed too.  Remember not too long back, Gloria and I went to the Tinker’s Cart Retreat with Rosalie, Leanne and Bronwyn???  Well, here’s my Winter Wonderland, designed by Rosalie Quinlan……finito!!! 005 (2) What do you think?   Now, I just need to work out where to hang it??!! And how are you going with your little birdies for the Challenge with Jenny and me this weekend??  If you’re anything like me, you’d have to have had a head start ….I’m a little slower than most!!!! Here’s my first one ready to be caged…. 008 I followed Sarah’s pattern from the Homespun magazine I mentioned back here and I’m pretty happy with the result.  They’re quite easy to make so if you’re still tossing up whether to join the Challenge or not, I can guarantee, this one only took me about an hour to make, so it’s definitely NOT too late to join….just leave a comment telling me and I’ll add you to my sidebar. I must say, I am a little bit excited about this weekend, because I’m tripping off to Charters Towers on Sunday to meet the lovely and talented Jenny in ‘the real’!!!!   I just can’t wait….it’s a little like meeting royalty, don’t you think??   (now don’t get a swelled head there Jenny!!! hehehe).  I must make sure I have done all my homework and have my wire cut and fabric sorted before I get there….don’t want to be unprepared!!!!! fairy-cartoon-with-wand Hope the Full Moon Fairies all come and tidy your sewing rooms for you tonight  (don’t you just wish they existed???) Birdcage Challenge

I mentioned how much I L-O-V-E-D this wonderful design….by the talented Sarah Saliba IMG_2510 featured here… IMG_2508 to my good friend Jenny and she suggested we do a challenge together.  What do you think I would say???? “OH YES PLEASE!!!!”  was my immediate response!  I had so much fun doing this challenge with Teresa not long ago, I was thinking how much fun it would be for everyone to be able to do something like that and have as much fun as we did, There was no way I would miss out on this much fun again…..and to co-host it with one of my favourite designers!!!!!  Woohoo!!!! *happy happy happy dance* We are inviting you, wherever you may be in the world, to join us online for this…. IHprod.0507.birdcage ….in the comfort of your own home…..you don’t even have to get out of your pj’s if you don’t want to! If you can get a hold of a copy of the August issue of Homespun magazine, you can follow along with us, (I’ve already got most of my materials for it and the perfect place in my sewing room to hang it (even have the hook in the ceiling awaiting it’s arrival!!!)  …but we don’t want to limit only those of us who can get a copy, soooooo…… if you’d like to try other patterns, designs or styles and modes (whether it be paper craft, knitting, crochet, or anything else that tickles your fancy) Jenny already has tracked some down here, and I’ll be adding some soon too! You can make your own birdcage, like Sarah’s , or use an existing birdcage, and I agree with Jenny, something white and shabby would be ‘delish’, but whatever is your style is going to look absolutely fantastic! :O) So, if you’d love to join us for a fabulous weekend creating THE most beautiful bird-filled birdcages, sign up on either Jenny’s or my blog by leaving a comment telling us so and we’ll add your name to our lists on our sidebars. Have a wonderful week, Sugary hugs, XXX Wendy :O)
