Better get my groove on.....FNSI Sign ups

So sorry for the late sign ups!

I've been sick with a sinus infection that spread to my throat and ears and have been feeling very lethargic.  I'm ok though but have been sleeping more than normal.  Thanks to Catherine  and Maria for the heads up.....so wonderful that have friends who remind you when your head's all clogged up with boogers!  It's definitely not covid though...I've tested and my crusty nose attests to it!

I worked on a new quilt panel last weekend for my gorgeous lil grandson who, would you believe, is 8 months old already!!!  Look at those toothy-pegs!   Mr B had bought the panel on his way back from a work trip away....he actually stopped into a little quilt shop in Childers and bought it for me to make up for our boy!  I didn't add much....just free motion quilted it and added a binding.  I sent it a long with a 'resoftable' Thomas the Tank Engine Toy.....it's made entirely of recycled soft drink bottles...but soft and cuddly.....very clever.   Ryker loves trains so he took to it like a duck to water and making the quilt with double wadding, I think that it's going to get a lot of use too this winter!

Lots more to show you but for now I'll put up sign ons as I know we're all chomping at the bit to begin!  Remember you can sign on here or just connect through the facebook FNSI group...either way you'll go into the draw to win a prize from our lovely sponsor, Kitty Rose Cottage.     I have a few to draw and will do that on Monday so I'll post winners then.  In the meantime, pop on over and have a look at the beauties in the shop.   I've ordered my Little Box of Magical Christmas and the Walton Garden BOM is calling my name!

Looking forward to stitching along with you tonight and fingers crossed for your name to be drawn!

Big sugary hugs xox :o)

Unlucky for some….

It was a depressing day at school on Friday……school camp had to be cancelled due to the unforgiving monsoonal rains, and the students were not happy! A woman holding an umbrella stands in floodwaters as rain falls in Cardwell. March 8, 2011. Floodwaters rise in the north Queensland town of Cardwell, just weeks after Cyclone Yasi hit the region. March 8, 2011. (Supplied: Lindsay Hallam)  Photo courtesy of http://www.abc.net.au/news/  We had planned to travel to Lake Tinaroo on the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland on Monday, in two buses with sixty-five 11-12 year old children.  They were quite unhappy when we told them, but we’d checked the weather……more than ten times and the road conditions had been studied carefully, and whichever way we’d planned to go, the roads were cut in at least 3 or 4 places.  I was not happy either, because I love school camps!!….despite the ‘being on duty 24 hours a day’ tiredness that sets in after about 2 days, they are always so much fun……after 20 years of teaching and with at least 10 camps under my belt, I haven’t got bored with them yet!  So to ease the disappointment (for all of us), I told my students to imagine how terrible it would be being stuck on the highway due to the floodwaters, and then trying to turn back and finding the roads had flooded behind us.  Not only that, but they’d be stuck with 6 grumpy teachers, no food, only the water in their bottles, high humidity, wet bodies and mosquitoes!!!!  They soon realised that it was the ONLY decision that could have been made and they’re happy we are now going in October!!!……It made me feel much better about it too!!!! Ah well, it’s probably a good thing….I have so much work to catch up on!!!!!  And then I got home and was blessed with some parcels that the lovely PO lady had put aside for me! The lovely Sandy sent me these gorgeous panels as a prize I won in the Blog Hop. 013 014 015 These are just a few of the 8…..aren’t they super gorgeous!!??  I had initially thought these would make a couple of special tote bags but when they arrived…..they spoke to me and said….”we want to be made into a cutesy table topper!!!!”  Who could argue with that???  LOL
The other parcel contained some wonderful fabric I’d purchased online from the US of A.  A half yard set of mixed fabrics…some Wee Woodland by Keiki for Moda, Robert Kauffman’s Daisies and Dots, Metro Cafe and Wild Friends, Michael Miller’s Ta Dot, Baby Safari by Benartex and Alexander Henry’s Caitlin Stripes.  There were some more but they weren’t labelled and I don’t know what they’re called!!!!!! 003 004 They came packed with a couple of special yummy goodies….  a pen, ribbon and… 002 …the most beautiful hot chocolate mix…..it didn’t hang around for long…. it was yummmmmmmmm…….burp!!!!!! LOL   Because I didn’t have to pack for camp, I finished my first set of birthday gifts….remember in my last post, I showed you these?? Well, here’s the rest of it…. 012 This apron is from Leanne Beasley’s pattern “No. 072  Apron Strings”.  007 008 006011 009   ….and yes……my mother-in-law loved it!!!! sugary hugs XXX Wendy  :0)

How could I refuse?

Yesterday was our local Burdekin Uniting Church Craft Spectacular so a couple of quilt-y friends and I headed off for a wonderful day. 017 Despite having many lucky draws, this chook was not a lucky one but……….I did set myself a reasonable spending limit and I didn’t go tooo far over it!!! Starting off at the Tinker’s Cart stall, I spied these Mouline Madeira threads for 50c each!  I knew I needed some to finish my Nice People Nice Things stitcheries, so I snavelled these up, quick smart!011 Then after vowing we’d do ‘the lap’ before buying anything more, we stopped halfway around and bought these… 012 …more threads, but hand dyed…..just thought it would be nice to give them a try, or maybe even just to admire in the thread stash? Then after a quick trip around the other side of the hall, we found Wendy P’s IddyBiddy Cottage stall.  We stayed there for aaaaages as Wendy always has great deals and if you order online, she always adds in a 'little something extra’ to say thank you…..she’s amazing….and being ‘down the road’ in Proserpine, makes her a local! With a love of roses, and a very cheap pricetag, I knew this panel and fabric kit would find a loving home at my place! 008  I want to do a red and white with a ‘touch’ of  blue quilt so I couldn’t pass these by…. 016 This Thimbleberries dessert roll called me and I can see another of Dawn’s Baseco Mahal Kita Totes being made out of this…… 009 My lovely friend Gloria thought these looked just like me so she couldn’t walk past them as a gifty….isn’t she a sweetie!!!!???? 010 Then it was lunch and time to finish the ‘lap’ we had begun hours before!!!!   We were very good then, and had held off on buying any more until after ‘high tea’ where we were served cakes and tea off a trolley….simply scrumptious…but seeing I was enjoying it so much, I forgot to take a photo!!!!  I did however get a photo of the giveaway placemats and bookmarks that the church provided at each table…. 019 …..aren’t they lovely? Then it was time for lap number 2.  Needless to say the closing time of 3pm was looming quite closely, but we never even thought to look at the clock…we were having waaaaaaay too much fun! I spied this lovely stack of 2 panels and 5 coordinating fq’s and thought how nice they would be in the quilt I am yet to design to commemorate the anniversary of my mum’s passing to cancer.  I’m going to look at what other fabrics I’ve been collecting, just for this purpose, and start working out how best I can put these together very soon, as the anniversary is on the 4th October, only 2 months away! 015 …and just as all the ‘thank you’ announcements and major prize winners were announced (of which I was definitely NOT one :( !! )  I found this pattern book and jelly roll which just begged me to take it home…..how could I resist????? 021 …..and  they were shooing us out the door as this popped into my bag…… 022 … A Quilter’s Priority kit……just the reminder I needed to get rid of the ‘quilty guilties’….. 025 Don’t you just love it!!???? Our arms were sore from carrying our bundles, our tummies sore from all the lovely food and our cheeks were sore from aaaaaaaall the laughing and chatting we did ……who could ask for a better day! Thank you my lovely friends for making my day so special. And then, to end the day, we watched this beautiful cane fire from our front garden…. 005 ….don’t worry, that fire is behind the trees and posts!!!! Hope your day was as special as mine!
