Birdcage Challenge Progress Report #2

So sorry about not keeping you up to date yesterday…..I think Jenny, Blossom and I talked ALL the legs off their chairs and had such fun, we never got time to blog!!!!  …and I was so exhausted last night, I hit the pillow and didn’t even know it! What an absolutely inspiring day…..I only wish you all could have been there with us…..our chatter would have been heard over the bats that are in plague proportions in Charters Towers!!! LOL It felt like I was right at home the moment I arrived at Jenny’s….such a beautiful house and family, the photos on her blog don’t do it justice!!!!  Blossom helped me build my cage because we quickly realised more hands were needed!!!!!! With her help, we quickly got it to this stage…. DSCF1664 a bit hard to see, but I decided to go with the round version.  I used tea-stained calico to wrap my cage in….that’s where the fun began…..  Let me just put it this way……I wish they invented a cool version on the hot glue gun….*ouch*!  (I bet Jenny will show photo evidence!!!) DSCF1666 DSCF1670 Jenny’s version went off on a different track….because she’s making hers for her house, which is a rental, she can’t add more hooks on to the walls so she decided to use a canvas backing (which you would have seen on her blog) like this….  DSCF1665 here’s Jenny using her hot glue gun for the very first time……”watch those fingers, Jenny!!!!!” DSCF1667  DSCF1668 not quite finished here but well on the way… DSCF1671 and you can see a picture frame version of her birdcage…..how creative is this woman!!!!!DSCF1673 We can’t wait to see what your birdy projects have turned out like.  Make sure you send us photos and we’ll post them for us all to oooh and aaah over!. Ours are still ‘on the go’ but will surely be finished in the next couple of days and we’ll show you them, totally finished, real soon!! DSCF1672 All I can say is, these are two wonderful women….very generous of heart and truly beautiful people!  I feel so blessed to have met them and can’t wait to ‘play’ with them again soon!!!! Progress report #1

Hasn’t the day sped by oh so quickly???  I had some general chores to do….washing, shopping and the like, but it was 8pm before I knew it!  Did you find time forgot to stand still today too???  Must be because we’re getting our challenge done, eh???!!! (and doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun??) LOL Ok….here is where I’m at so far…..(and believe it or not, I’m right on target!  yeeehawwww!) ….my birdies are complete – quite shabby… 003 ….and ready to hang, Hubby’s helped me make the rings for my cage and cut the wire and he, being the clever bunny that he is, came up with an easy way to make the rings.  Using the plastic lid from a round laundry hamper, he pegged the wire inside the rim….which was about 44cm diameter, and then just added a couple more centimetres to the measurement!  Soooo much easier if you haven’t made yours yet.  I’m thinking I’m going to leave mine as a round cage…..we’ll see how that thought progresses as the actual making of the cage begins!!!! 002 If you’ve come up with any tricky hints to make your cage (or birdies), leave a comment and we can all learn together!  Remember, there’s no set routine on how you go about making your birdcage and birdies, and I know Dawn’s already made her cage and is making her birdies tomorrow….can’t wait to see what they’re like!!!  Melody’s got her fabric all organised and was making her birdies today.  It’s a little like Christmas, waiting to see what they’re all going to be like….I just love it! I’ll be up bright and early tomorrow to pack the car and drive to Charters Towers to meet with Jenny and finish our challenge.  It should take me about 2 hours so I do hope the rain holds off…it’s been good all weekend but there are predictions of storms on  Sunday…..go figure!!!!! Well I better get some shut eye, make a note to self to pack the laptop and camera….and of course the glasses (I’m beginning to feel lost without them lately!!!!). Hope you’re all progressing well.  Chat again tomorrow! XXX Sugary hugs Wendy :O)

It’s official!!!!

IHprod.0507.birdcage Well, good morning ladies, and welcome to Jenny’s and my Birdcage Challenge weekend! I know Jenny’s away for today visiting with a friend and enjoying this beautiful scenery strand townsville and chatting away a storm!  We really do live in God’s country, don’t we??? I hope you’re able to follow me on our weekend.  I’ve taken the liberty, whilst Jenny’s away, to get started! I did try gathering everyone’s emails together so I could send out more personalised info, but that was easier said than done!  Sorry ladies, but once we get started, if you email me with how you’re going, I’ll start up a photo gallery and we can email back and forth with any issues you’re having! (Not that I’m an expert….but we can work things out together….you know the old saying….two heads are better than one!?) My plan is to have all the birds made today, and get all the birdcage paraphenalia cut and organised before I travel to Charters Towers tomorrow to visit with Jenny to work on our birdcages.  Have you set yourself some goals to complete your project this weekend, or is this weekend just the jumping board to get you started????  I’d love to hear! Firstly, I’m following Sarah’s pattern in the August issue of Homespun, and here are my fabric choices for my birds 006 (3) I’ve already made one (and a half!!)….I do plan to have my 5 done today so I can concentrate on the birdcage tomorrow at Jenny’s. 006 and here is where I’m up to this morning with all my goodies sorted (well, most anyway!) 001 So, I now officially open the Jenny of Elefantz and Sugarlane Quilts Birdcage Challenge Weekend Sew-In……OPEN!!!!   cutting ribbon Good luck and I can’t wait to see how you’re going! Full Moon finishes….

004 We had a beautiful golden full moon rising tonight and although my camera just didn’t do it justice, there was an eeriness about it that I think it may have captured…..which made me think about reminding you about this…. falloween bloghop which starts next Monday, but if you’re going to fall-ow (LOL), don’t forget to go here and let Gudrun know by Friday, so you’ll be entered in the draw to win this sweet bundle of Halo… IMG_0468 I did manage to get my first Christmas finish completed too.  Remember not too long back, Gloria and I went to the Tinker’s Cart Retreat with Rosalie, Leanne and Bronwyn???  Well, here’s my Winter Wonderland, designed by Rosalie Quinlan……finito!!! 005 (2) What do you think?   Now, I just need to work out where to hang it??!! And how are you going with your little birdies for the Challenge with Jenny and me this weekend??  If you’re anything like me, you’d have to have had a head start ….I’m a little slower than most!!!! Here’s my first one ready to be caged…. 008 I followed Sarah’s pattern from the Homespun magazine I mentioned back here and I’m pretty happy with the result.  They’re quite easy to make so if you’re still tossing up whether to join the Challenge or not, I can guarantee, this one only took me about an hour to make, so it’s definitely NOT too late to join….just leave a comment telling me and I’ll add you to my sidebar. I must say, I am a little bit excited about this weekend, because I’m tripping off to Charters Towers on Sunday to meet the lovely and talented Jenny in ‘the real’!!!!   I just can’t wait….it’s a little like meeting royalty, don’t you think??   (now don’t get a swelled head there Jenny!!! hehehe).  I must make sure I have done all my homework and have my wire cut and fabric sorted before I get there….don’t want to be unprepared!!!!! fairy-cartoon-with-wand Hope the Full Moon Fairies all come and tidy your sewing rooms for you tonight  (don’t you just wish they existed???) Bloghopper….

Well, I thought holidays were meant to mean slowing down….but not around this household! Hubby’s out of work at the moment, so he’s under my feet and my ‘boy’ has come home for the holidays…with a teen in the house again, I’d forgotten how much time is spent in ‘the taxi’!!!! I haven’t been totally away from crafty business though….. …we have a friendship block swap happening in our Guild at the moment…..I’m a bit behind because my sewing machine decided to die rather unexpectedly (not happy seeing as it was only 6 years old!!) so while it’s off at the doctor’s, my sweet decided that he’d surprise me with this….. 007 a basic model, but sews like a dream!!!  I’m happy again!   Anyhoo, I digress….here is my block…. 001 that I was asked to make based on this one… 002 I’m more of a blue person, and seeing I had the option of blue, green or purple, I chose the blue one and I’m pleased to say the recipient loved my choice! I am also working on a secret project at the moment and I can give you a couple of sneakies here…. 003 and here…. 004 I’ll be able to reveal all next week! And talking about next week, remember this weekend is our Birdcage Challenge with Jenny and me?  It’s not too late to join us.  Just leave a comment and I’ll add you to the list on our sidebars. This is the fabric I’ve chosen for my birds which I’ll start in the next day or two….. 006 I know I said I like blue, but lately my preference is RED!!!!  (must be a midlife crisis!!!! LOL) And finally, I thought I’d invite you to join me (and many others) on a Fall-o-ween Blog Hop.  I am a bit partial to these, they are so much fun and lead you to designer’s blogs you wouldn’t normally find. falloween bloghop You can find details here and you must sign up by this Friday.  Come join me and explore the world of Blogland!!!
