My February UFO Challenge

Remember I told you about the American Patchwork & Quilting UFO Challenge in this post?

impossible

I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try and challenge myself to finish, or at least progress further on 12 projects, rather than give myself the near impossible task of attacking ALL my UFOs in 2015.

Thanks to A.P. & Q., my list was written and I worked diligently on number 4 project, which was randomly drawn out for January, and we all know how that ended up don’t we?  (if you don’t, check back here to find out).

February’s challenge has been drawn and it’s…..

my Delightful Stars Quilt-a-Long BOM that I started with Michele last year but went wayside somewhere along the way.

It’s funny because I’ve been looking at some of those blocks I’ve had on my design wall as I was putting together Christmas Blessings and thinking, “I really should get back onto these!”  Isn’t it weird how it works out sometimes?  I have the first six blocks done so another ten to go plus borders and other bits and pieces….maybe not a finish this month but……

cover-w

….you can expect to see some progress on this gorgeous quilt.

What will you be working on?

FNSI draw and what I got up to……

Was Friday night REALLY 3 nights ago????  Gee that goes fast……but I can see we’ve all got lots done…isn’t sewing with friends fantastic motivation??  I absolutely love it! My plans went on hold a bit as my son started uni today and informed me on Friday night he ‘needed’ a pencil-case right there and then…..so…..what does a stitcher do? Yep, you got it, I made him one……. 018 (Medium) 019 (Medium) nothing flash, very simple and quite manly, and he loves it….and because I’ve used pellon between the lining and the cover, his mates even think he’s lucky because when lectures are ‘boring’,  he can use it as a pillow!!!!!!     BOYS!!!!! www.clipartguide.com I also got to try out Susan’s method of making “Perfect” flying geese, and I must admit…..it’s my new favourite way of making them!!!!  A brief overview…… 024 (Medium)026 (Medium)028 (Medium)029 (Medium) I trimmed them down after this step and added them to the other elements of the block to get this…….. 015.1 (Medium) See what I mean about perfect flying geese EVERY time!!!!!  If you want to get the full instructions for perfecting your flying geese Susan’s way, go to her blog HERE.   This is the 5th block in my Delightful Stars QAL with Michele over at Quilting Gallery.  I also took the next step and added the sashing between 4 of the 5 blocks and  this is the result…… 017.1 (Medium) I’m loving this QAL and it’s helping perfect my points beyond belief…Michele’s instructions are really great…..head on over if you want to join along. I also managed a bit more stitching on this Smee Designs beauty…. 033 (Medium) It’s such a fun one……granny’s really rockin’ those fluffy slippers!!!!!! I’ve got a couple of other things I MUST get done but that’s just going to have to wait……..I know you’re all eagerly anticipating the draw for Friday night’s TWO winners!!  Well, Mr RNG offered his help again and here is what he said….. 2014.02.1 winner2014.02.2 winner Our winners for this month are Christine over @ MacDonald’s Patch and Mary K @ 13 Insane Penguins and Squirrels (don’t you just love that name???)  Both ladies were very busy on Friday night and if you’re an owl lover, Mary has a  great link to the cutest little owls….pop on over and take a look. A Weekend of stitching fun

I thought I’d catch up on my blocks for the Delightful Stars QAL so on Saturday, between hanging out piles of washing, I worked on blocks 2, 3 and 4 using the luscious French General “Josephine”. 029 (Medium)028 (Medium)027 (Medium) Sunday was spend working on this teeny weeny paper pieced project which is well on it’s way to becoming a badge for my secret partner on the bus trip at Lets Get Stitched in Melbourne in a few weeks time!  *eek*  I’m getting a bit excited!!!!…. 032 (Medium) Can you see how tiny it is???…my pin is there to reference its size for you…see what I mean about teeny???? (but oh, what fun it was to make!)  And yes, it is totally finished now but I can’t show you exactly how I finished it or or it will no longer be a surprise for my secret partner!!!!!  I found the free pattern which I pinned to my Pinterest page HERE if you’d like to try one for yourself! If you haven’t already seen it……I got a big surprise from Larissa on Saturday when she texted me a photo just like this one….. IMG_3325 (Medium) ..so I had to go and buy myself a copy because, can you see???…..My ‘Give Thanks” wall-hanging is featured on the cover of the latest Inspiring Country Threads….I had to pinch myself…..so excited!!! and I‘m sharing the limelight with two esteemed  designing buddies….Jenny of Elefantz and Michelle Ridgeway of Rag Tag Stitchin’.  If you’re not in Australia and can’t get a hold of the pattern, it is for sale in my Craftsy shop…..just click on the link in my sidebar. Before I finish….I just want to share with you what my gorgeous man organised for me on Valentine’s Day… 023 (Medium) …lunch out, and when we got there, on our table were roses, some yummy chocolates (burp), and a dancing doggy wearing the most flattering sunglasses (wish they were in my size!)  Isn’t he a honey????  (and the dog too!!!) I’m off to pack up some goodies to take with me to my favourite day of the fortnight….sewing day with the Girls!!!!!  It’s at Jenny’s place tomorrow and I just can’t wait! xox Sugary hugs :o) my signature

A quick catchup

Just a quick catchup as I've noticed my posts are getting further apart!!!  You know I've been working on a secret project for an upcoming edition if a magazine???... Well it's finished but I still can't show you.....yet!   Suffice to say I'm at the dreaded pattern writing stage....bluuuugh!!!!
That will continue when I get home.... At the moment I'm sitting in the doctor's surgery waiting for DS to have a mole cut out of his face!!!  Routine stuff...so all is good!
But I can show you something I've been working on....my first block in Michele's Delightful Stars Quilt-a-long.

I've decided this is going to be THE one to commemorate my Mum's passing 25 years ago this year to cancer!!  After all, it's a gorgeous design and the fabric is French General "Josephine"...which was mum's name.... I've been waiting for just the right idea to come along and Mum was (and still is) my absolute star... I think there's a sign there... Don't you??
You can find info about this gorgeous design over at Quilting Gallery.
