Mock Cathedral Window Workshop

What a way to spend Mothers’ Day…..I awoke with a cup of piping hot plunger coffee followed by a beautiful breakfast of Atlantic salmon, asparagus, grilled tomato and eggs, and I didn’t even have to get out of my jammies!!!!!   mmmmmm   my hubby spoils me!!! 024 He did cook perfect eggs but I broke them before I thought to take a photo….not being used to eating fish for breakfast, (I’m generally a high fibre cereal or porridge kinda gal) I turned my nose up at first, but wow……it was a delicious flavour combination and hubby did it juuuuuust right!   I knew I married him for a reason!!!! LOL The weekend was spent at a workshop put on by one of our many talented members of our Guild.  She led the way through a wonderful quilt-as-you-go project called “Mock Cathedral Windows”.  Not having tried the other ‘Cathedral Window’ block but having it on my ever-increasing ‘to-do’ list, I was pretty excited about getting stuck into it.  Consequently, I had my fabric, pellon and templates all cut and ready to go for Saturday. 001 I discovered I had no template plastic left for the circles so I raided my xray drawer and dug out the oldest one (see my spine???….no, I’m not spineless now!!!! hehehe) and used it…it did the trick too! The fabric caught my eye at Spotlight….a blue on cream toile and a blue tone on tone paisley….reminded me of the Willow China we had when I was a child, so I just had to buy it. 003 Well, you know what workshops are like, coffee, sewing, chatting, morning tea, coffee, chatting, checking out everyone else’s work, more sewing, chatting, lunch, coffee, sewing, chatting, seeing where everyone else is up to,  chatting, a little more sewing, chatting, more coffee some sewing, pack up, home.  By day one on Saturday, we all had at least a 4-patch placemat done and enough enthusiasm to come back for more on Sunday! Aren’t they all gorgeous????   I love them all and couldn’t pick any favourites!  I’ve planned to make mine into a tablecloth to protect our timber dining table and I nearly have four rows done…. 041 042 …but you know what happens when finishing time is looming…….I had to do the inevitable ‘reverse stitching’ (or more commonly referred to as ‘unpicking’!!!) and then  repeat that process 3 times, hence the pins still in rows three and four!  I will still have to join the two sets of rows and then the petals/windows will appear between them.  I love the fact that once the rows are done….they’re done…this quilt-as-you-go was so much easier than I’d thought! 036 037 I will have to do about 6 more rows, so another few days of solid stitching ahead of me, but gee it’s been nice to get reacquainted with my machine again! Hope you got to spend Mothers Day doing some of what you love best! sugary hugs Wendy :0)

What a GREAT breakfast - did you know that protein for breakfast is much better than fiber? It revs up your metabolism where fiber slows it down. Smart hubby!

I love your mock cathedral windows, my gosh the fabric you picked is just gorgeous. LOVE it.

Definitely a yummo breakfast. Lucky you got one that can cook, mine can't.
Gorgeous fabric. Saw this QAYG block a little while ago and had the thought that it would really be a brilliant alternative to the "real" thing. Love the real thing but they are so slow to do. Having seen yours, this block is now on my "amgunnado" list!
So glad you are up and about more.

The blues are so pretty, and I can even picture them made up and on your table 'cause I've been blessed with a few of your hubby's amazing meals before! :-)
